Update 20. Oct 2008: A more up to date plugin is located at http://www.mroach.com/ (Alternative mirror)
After recieving a Sony Ericsson W580i mobile phone, I made a quick plugin to get it up and running with iSync and the Mac Address Book. The plug-in is in no way perfect but should get the job done. I haven’t tested calendar syncing yet.
- Download the following file W580i_iSync_Plugins_v1.zip
- Then put the PhonePlugins in the
/User/Libraryfolder. - Now add the phone in bluetooth devices and open iSync.
To get the address book working, open /Applications/Address Book.app/Contents/Resources/ Telephony.bundle/Contents/Resources/ABDeviceCommandSets.plist
Locate the following text:
ABDeviceModelStrings
P800
ABDial
ATD%@;
And add the following under it, before
ABAnswerPhone
ATA
ABAnswerWaiting
at+chld=2
ABDeclineWaiting
at+chld=0
ABDeviceModelStrings
W580
ABDial
ATD%@;
ABEnableCallWaiting
at+ccwa=1
ABEnableCallerID
at*eips=1,1
ABEnableCallerName
at*eips=2,1
ABEnableSMSReceive
at+CNMI=2,1
ABHangUpPhone
ATH
ABReleaseAndAnswer
at+chld=1
ABRequestClip
at+clip=1
ABSendSMS
AT+CMGS=%dBWACKRBWACKN
If you have another Sony Ericsson model without Address Book support you can try adding yourphonemodel after the W580 line.

FYI, calendar syncing does not appear to work with this plugin. Thanks anyway!
I can’t find /Applications/Address Book.app/Contents/Resources/ Telephony.bundle/Contents/Resources/ABDeviceCommandSets.plist
Which application do I use to edit the file when I find it?
HELP!!!!
Hey!
The iSync thing works perfect!
I´m using leopard and it seems that the adressbook is working without your modifications!
Thanks!!!!!!!!
This doesn’t work in Leopard’s Addressbook ver 4.1
Does your Plug-in work with Leopard? I’m considering buying this phone soon, and need to sync my Address book contents to the the phone. Thanks!
I don’t actually own this phone, so I don’t know if it works in Leopard. Judging from the other comments it seems that for some this works perfectly.
I can’t sync my second w580i. Will this plug-in sync multiple phones?
I don’t have two phones to test with and I’m not updating the plugin anymore, you can of course experiment with it yourself.
I cant find /Applications/Address Book.app/Contents/Resources/ Telephony.bundle/Contents/Resources/ABDeviceCommandSets.plist
Where will I find it and how do I process the txt?
Thanks anyway
FInd the Address Book icon, right-click it and select “Show Package”.
Don’t forget to add “i” after “W580″:
W580i
iSync seems working fine!!!
Thank You sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.
Does this transfer my phone contacts to Address Book.app or from Address Book.app to the w580i phone?? I think mine only works one way (address book to w580i) i am running isync after i made the changes to .plist as shown..
thanks for the plug-in!
I was actually able to sync iCal as well!
p.s. I’m running Tiger, not Leopard.
I did right click on my brand new macbook (aluminum) and I cannot find the addy starting with ‘telephony…’ would love to sync my phone though. please help.
